Here's the Skinny
Sunday October 23, 2011 - Posted by Mike Rose
Hello to all you boys and girls out there in Internet!
First off I
would like to formally congratulate our newest members on their
acceptance into the group. We had a fantastic turnout this year and we
regret only being able to accept the five. The names of these lovely and
talented gentlemen are as follows:
Jordan Banyas Chris Baron Travis Burch Aaron Deming Vince Giannone
We are in the process of teaching them to be 8Bar-sexy and they are faring quite well.
And
for you 8 to the Bar historians out there, we have indeed inducted a
second Chris Baron (as far as we know, a completely separate entity from
the first Chris Baron).
IN OTHER NEWS!
PITCHFEST IS COMING
Put
on your listening hats and your excited faces because once again, our
annual winter concert is just around the corner. Here are some of the
tentative details. More specifics will be granted in an upcoming post.

8 to the Bar's Fall Auditions!
Tuesday August 30, 2011 - Posted by Ryan McCullough
It's about that time of the year again folks! Each year, 8 to the Bar turns over a new leaf in hopes of producing our most successful Acapella season yet. This year will be no different. That being said, we'd like to officially announce:
Fall Auditions!
Date: Tuesday, September 27th
Time: 7:00pm - ??
Location: The Hill Conference Room (Lebow Engineering Center)
If you are interested in auditioning, please Email us at 8tothebar@gmail.com. This will help us greatly in scheduling the audition times.
As far as the audition process goes, we generally assess three main areas of ability:
1) Voice Range - we'll test the audibility of your lower register, as well as the tone quality of your upper register and falsetto. 2) Pitch Matching - we give 3 pitches in succession, you repeat them. The process repeats with increasing difficulty. 3) Sight-Reading - we give you a segment of one of our musical arrangements along with the starting pitch; the rest is up to you.
In addition to these three aspects, we also ask that you prepare a short solo to sing a cappella. It usually consists of a verse and chorus from any contemporary song or something from within the last 50 years or so. It must have words, and we suggest that you sing something that is both comfortable for your vocal range and shows off the best qualities of your voice. Basically, this is your chance to show us what you're capable of as a vocalist.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us and we will answer them to the best of our ability.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing you out there,
Goggles

Congratulations Officers!
Monday May 30, 2011 - Posted by Mike Rose
Hello friends, fans and filibusters,
It is my pleasure to announce that last week our organization held elections for next year's officer positions. Like years prior to this year, everyone was eager to step into any role in which their personal expertise could give our organization a greater chance of success and the opportunity to grow to its fullest potential.
It was refreshing to see that every member of our group has invested such a great interest in the success and longevity of our group. I am proud of every one of us for the heartfelt effort I witnessed.
Now without further affectionate blather, I present 8 to the Bar's Officers for 2011-2012:
President: Colin Eggert-Crowe Musical Director: Steve Pribis Assistant Musical Director: Brett Rodgers Business Manager: Ryan 'Goggles' McCullough Head Treasurer: Levi Toback Assistant Treasurers: Mike Rose and James Sullivan Head Public Relations: Mike Rose Assistant Public Relations: Andy Webb and Chris Feindler Webmasters: Justin Bendigo and James Sullivan Secretary: Ross Diskin
Again, congratulations to everybody; I'm positive that we're looking forward to an exciting and productive year.

Upcoming Concert, you say?
Tuesday April 12, 2011 - Posted by Mike Rose
Yes, that is exactly what I say.
Friday, May 6th in Stein Auditorium. Doors open at 7:30pm. Bring your listening ears and your laughing heart.
You shan't regret your attendance.
On to BUSINESS!
As you are now aware,
we will be hosting a concert. During the Spring. It will be our Spring Concert.
Except without the capitalization to make it a proper noun because Spring
Concert is an intolerably boring name for a concert so BURSTING with cavalcades
of fancy. Why is that you ask?
Because it will be a THEMED concert full of lustrous melodies and rampant
buffoonery. Basically par for the course if par is EXCEEDING YOUR WILDEST
DREAMS. What is this theme you ask? It goes a little something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZvOqYVs2ao&feature=fvst
It is adorned with theme and nomenclature almost as delicious as the commercial you just drooled over. REAL.
MEN. OF. 8BAR.

The Results Are In!
Thursday October 7, 2010 - Posted by Levi Toback
After two grueling nights of preliminary auditions and a heated 2-hour callback session, we are proud to announce the newest members of 8 to the Bar! (drum roll please...) Congratulations to:
Justin Bendigo! Chris Feindler! Brett Rodgers! James Sullivan! Alex Tinsley! Andy Webb!
This year we had the largest turnout to auditions ever recorded in 8bar history! The competition was fierce, but these six men demonstrated exemplary performances, impressive musical talent, and managed to win the hearts and minds of all who observed them during their intense trials. We laughed! We cried (on the inside). And we debated a lot.
All in all, it was a truly successful audition process, and we'd like to thank everyone that came out to audition for the group this year. Unfortunately we couldn't possibly take everyone, so we encourage you all to come and try out the next time we hold auditions!
For all you fans out there who would like to come see our newest members perform with 8 to the Bar, we'll be singing all around campus with Carnegie Mellon's all-male group, The Originals, on Saturday, October 16th! We hope to see you all there, and congratulations once again to the newest members of 8 to the Bar!

Winter Term News
Monday January 25, 2010 - Posted by Rich Price
Hey, folks! I know the website hasn't had any new news lately, so I'm here to bring you a little bit of information about what the group has been up to these past few months.
We did a couple performances during the holdiay season, including a performance at the Drexel Holiday Party where we did a couple of our standard numbers as well as a Christmas a cappella piece. We were warmly received and we had a lot of fun!
As far as music goes, we are planning on keeping around a few of our favorite pieces from the past year, but we are also working on a number of new songs that will be unveiled at our Spring concert. We'll have more information on the concert in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out!

Fall Auditions
Thursday September 3, 2009 - Posted by Rich Price
Hey Guys!
It's time to start thinking about Fall Auditions. We typically hold auditions within the first 2-3 weeks of classes, in the evening during the week, and have 1 or 2 days that we hold full auditions for people who want to come out. We then have 1 or 2 callback sessions, usually the following week.
If you're interested, you'll need to have a solo piece (WITH WORDS!!) prepared for the audition. (Please no instrumental pieces where you sing a part, or a choral piece where you choose one voice part... we need to hear how you sound on a solo line, pronunciations, etc. This will give us the best idea of how your voice will fit with the group.)
If you've tried out before but didn't get in, we welcome you to come back and try again. Circumstances are different every year, sometimes we need one voice part more than another, so maybe this will be your time to get in. We've had a number of people (myself included) who had to audition multiple times before they were accepted.
For audition information, email us at 8tothebar@gmail.com with "Auditions" in the subject. We will then respond with the information for the audition. We hope to see you there!

8 to the Bar Auditions
Sunday September 28, 2008 - Posted by Rich Price
Hey guys! I am proud to announce that we are going to be holding our auditions for the 2008-09 school year this Thursday, October 2nd! We will be meeting in Bossone, right inside the entrance on Market, at 8PM. We will start the auditions at 8:30 in the auditorium.
Here is what you should expect for the auditions:
When you first arrive, we will ask you to fill out an information sheet. Most of it will be basic information - your name, contact information, what kind of music you like, your schedule (so we can arrange rehearsal times should you make it into the group, this is very important!) and some fun stuff that we like to do so we can get to know you a little.
After you fill out the sheet, we will call you into the auditorium one by one. We'll ask you to introduce yourself (name, major, year in school, etc.) and give you a basic test your basic musical skills, such as pitch matching and sight reading.
We will then ask you to sing a part of a song so we can hear your voice in a solo setting. Prepare something that is about 30 seconds long, and be sure it has lyrics! (One time someone sang the theme from Halo - it was good, but we really need to know how you sound when you sing words!) Generally, we like to hear something that would be played on the radio, or you can look through our repertoire on the site for an idea of the kinds of songs we usually do.
Once we have finished listening to everyone, there may be some additional things we will ask you to do. The process should take no more than 5-10 minutes per person, though we will probably have something for the entire group as well, so make sure you have at least an hour or two free when you come for the audition.
If you won't be able to make it Thursday, please contact us so we can arrange an alternate audition for you. It will have to be sometime during that week, or during the early part of the following week, so be sure to let us know early so we have time to set it up.
If you have any questions about the group or the audition process, please send an email to 8tothebar@gmail.com before Thursday.

SHABAM!
Friday February 27, 2004 - Posted by Steve Stratoti
Mark your calendars now!
2nd Annual Treblemakers A capella fest is coming soon!
The show is FREE and they will be hosting 3 guest groups not counting 8 to the Bar!
MARCH 13TH @ 7pm in Stien Auditorium (Nesbit Hall)
Check out their website for more information!
I have finally added the new members to the Who's Who page, so go and check them out. I also updated a few pictures and bios.
And heres a scary fact, I never posted a congratulations to those who made the cut. It was a very hard decision this year an we ended up calling back about 10 out of the 26 that tried out.
The new members are:
#30 - Jeremy Burrel #31 - Jeff Arlen #32 - Ryan Baxter
Check out their info in the Whos Who section.
To all those who didn't make it, PLEASE try out next year. We try to keep our group small, and we're losing people every year. This is actually the second time Ryan tried out, and he made it! So please try again next year!

8ttb.com Forums! 8ttb Calendar!
Wednesday May 22, 2002 - Posted by Steve Stratoti
Been a while since this site has had an update, so here goes - it’s a big one.
We've added two new sections to our site - "8ttb Calendar" and "8ttb Forums". The calendar is viewable by everyone, but only 8ttb members can add dates, whereas the forums are open to EVERYONE! So go on in there and start posting! Virginia pics should be coming soon!
As for an update on how the group is doing, we're holding weekly practices over the summer to try to remain as tight as possible. It's difficult but we're hanging in there. More updates to come!

Website / Telethon
Wednesday May 22, 2002 - Posted by Steve Stratoti
We bought a domain last night, and from now on you just have to type in 8ttb.com to get to this site. It’s a lot easier than the other addresses. They still work though if you've already got them in your favorites and don't feel like changing them.
There has also been a change in the "Who's Who" section. Check it out. It's easier to look at and each members email address is now listed.
This past Tuesday night we all went down to Beth to stay the night, because the next morning we were getting up early and shooting our portion of the telethon. Beth's family treated us as…well…family! We had a lot of fun in the hot tub, trampoline and the trophy room. Pictures to come soon!
Our trip is coming up this Friday, and we can't wait to hit the Virginia beach!

8ttb - Post Concert Syndrome
Monday May 20, 2002 - Posted by Steve Stratoti
Our concert was a great success and now we're getting ready for the busy week ahead. We want to thank the Treble Makers for rocking the house and warming up the crowd for us! They really did a phenomenal job!
If you're interested in auditioning for their group, or ours for that matter please visit our Contact page.
We'd like to apologize to everyone who received a CD case, but not a CD. There was a mistake and they somehow got mixed in with the batch. If you received one of these please Contact Us and we'll run it over to you, or mail it to you ASAP!
We're heading to Beth's (Treble Maker) house to stay the night and the following morning we are video recording a set for a charity organization's telethon. We should have more information soon so you can watch and perhaps donate what ever you can to help them out!
Then this Friday morning we're heading down to Virginia beach for the 8ttb road trip! Its going to be a blast! And hopefully in a week you should see some pictures from it here on the website.
