If you've tried out for 8 to the Bar before, and feel discouraged
about trying out again this year - PLEASE come on out
and try again!
8 to the Bar is a very tight group. We
feel that a group size of over 11 would cause problems.
Since we lose (on average) about 2-3 members per year,
we can't take everyone. We also might have to replace
lost voices in a certain section. For instance, last
year we were primarily looking for tenors. We had
to turn down some great voices last year, and we'd hate
to lose them again the second time around.
For example, both Ryan Baxter and Akash Shukla had this experience. We couldn't take them the year they tried out. But they didn't give up. They each tried out again the following year and we were able to take them on! So PLEASE continue to try out,
don't get discouraged!

Audition Information/Structure
|
- Auditions are held every Fall Term, usually during the second to third week.
- They will be held only once.
- Please be prepared to wait for a hour to an hour and a half. If you need to leave early, let us know before we start and you will be placed at the front of the list.
- If you can't attend, for whatever reason, please email the musical director, Steve Pribis.
- Your will audition based upon four basic tests:
- You will prepare a song to sing. It can be anything you want, but try not to make it too obscure. Make sure the song shows off your talent.
- You will be given a starting note, and will be asked to sight read 5-6 bars of music.
- You will be given a pitch matching test. We will play 3-4 random notes on the keyboard, and then ask you to sing them.
- We will test your range.
- Please bring a pencil and a copy of your fall schedule to the audition. This is extremely important.
